HI,
I wonder if anybody can help. I just installed a ADDON NWAR3650 ADSL2+ Modem router and it is doing a couple of funny things. When i run a speed test here or using any other speed test tool the ping and download speed seem fine but the upload test ALWAYS fails. Well it just sort of sits there and does nothing until it times out. I ran one one on Audit My Pc . com and that uses java so i looked at the java console and saw this message "Client can't send/receive UDP packets to server port 8602". Now I have looked around and this can be caused by firewalls sometimes but all i changed was my router. Everything else is as it was when I could run any speedtest up and dowload. I am beginning to think it has something to do with the NAT on the router, but that leaves me in a large barren area where my brain ought to be. So can anybody give me any pointers as to where I look next please. Here's hoping.

Hi RiggsFolly,
I take it you didn't have any of these issues with your previous router? Quote:

You could also try booting the router to safemode with networking and try running the speedtests from there to see if it makes any difference Thanks Chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the response. I think I have narrowed my problem down to my upload speed. Its TOTALLY in the toilet 95% of the time. I have a call in to Phone support and they have me on delaying tactics right now. To get to second line support I have to run a speed test 3 times over the next 24 hours, regardless of the fact it has been terrible for the last few days. I believe when I thought it was the fault of the new router it was a Poisson Rouge, what is the French for herring, as that was the new piece of equipment in the loop. But for interests sake here are my problems:- Running speed tests, here as TT, and at other sites, I get a great download speed, well in the region of 3 meg, which is historically good for my distance from the exchange. What actually happens in ALL cases when I run a speed test on any site is the download test completes normally BUT THE UPLOAD test just sits there and does nothing for anything from 1 minutes to however long it takes to timeout. One site auditmypc.com run a java based test and as i have the java console set to come on automatically I saw the error that was reported when the upload test failed to run and here it is. Upload test failed jbm.client.C: Trial measurement failed. Client can't send/receive UDP packets to server port 8602 They also report a QoS figure as part of their report when the test runs. On the odd occasions that both a download and upload test completes I get a Download Qos around 95+% <-- GREAT but an upload Qos of around 40-55% <- NOT GREAT I have 3 different routers now, a Belkin, a Netgear and the new ADDON NWAR3650. I have run these tests will all 3 and from the BT test socket ( I always run from the test socket by the way). All get the same results, upload test fail or run for ages and ages. I have run tests on a 1 meter ethernet cable attached to the routers as well as the normal ethernet cabling I use around the house. Everything gets the same HORRIBLE upload speed results. So i am summizing that there is a fault somewhere outside the house that is completely crippling my upload speed. I have been noticing for some days that my FTP'ing to servers I am working on has been very very slow but assumed it was either the belkin router ( which I think has yet another problem anyway ) or the fact that the site was in Australia. But the more I actually waste valuable time running tests and eliminating all internal error situations I cannot help but summise that the issue is REAL and OUTSIDE of my control i.e. somewhere in the exchange or your network. I must admit that I also suppose that if i can get 3meg download speed the connection between house and exchange is not a major part of the problem. I have just looked over this and it is definitely a rant, SORRY. I just could not get the lady on first line support to pay any attention to my list of tests already performed. I am afraid when first line start acting like a doctors receptionist it just adds to the frustration. Anyway if you can help I would love it. If you feel it has to stay with phone support then I hope you enjoyed my rant, I feel a bit better for getting it off my chest. Best Regards

Ady,
Well that seems to have done the trick. Its back to 3000+ download and 500+ upload. Thanks. I did not change the adsl filter by the way. I just noticed on Saturday morning that it was working again before I checked back in here. Did you see a specific issue with the filter or was that just a try it and see? Thanks again.
