[IMPORTANT POST UPDATE - ORIGINAL MESSAGE DELETED]

Guys,

Due to the updated manufacturers firmware failing to load correctly on a number of DSL-2680 routers (See thread below), it is strongly advised NOT to update your firmware - Doing so is likely to render your router unusable!

Seemed to be going ok up until the part where routers normally auto reboot. I had the 100% completed message and to check router lights etc. Waited a couple of minutes and power cycled the router. All that happens now is the power led comes on but nowt else. Can`t even log into it anymore either.

Strange! - What hardware version / TT firmware do you have? (Mine was Hardware: A1 and Firmware Version 1.08)

Have you tried a factory reset? - Also with D-Links there's usually a "emergency recovery mode" which allows you to upload firmware only (does anyone know the process for the 2680?) - Try the following (from another d-link router):
  1. Unplug the router's power and wait 20 seconds.
  2. Get a pin, push the RESET button and KEEP IT PRESSED.
  3. Reconnect the power (while still keeping the reset button pressed)
  4. Keep the reset button pressed for an additional 5 seconds after connecting power and then release. At this point you should see the power button blinking orange.
  5. Connect over a WIRED connection to the router and set your network adapter IP MANUALLY to 192.168.0.2
  6. Open http://192.168.0.1 in a browser. You should see a white page with a Browse and Upload button
JB21

P.S. I forgot to do this myself, however before anyone else tries it. You might want to TFTP your current firmware off the 2680 (which saves a backup of your current firmware should you need it). The process to backup your firmware is below:-

Open up a command prompt and type:

telnet 192.168.1.1

(You will be prompted to enter your password [default=admin])

Leaving that window open, open another command prompt window and type:

tftp -i 192.168.1.1 get 2680-firmware.bin

(after a few minutes, you should get a "Transfer successful:" message and the 2680-firmware.bin file will be located in the folder you are currently in)

This should allow you to switch back to the TT f/w if you want to. I've just tried it on my non-talktalk fw and it transfered sucessfully.

Perhaps someone could let us know if the backup downloads successfully with the TT fw? The backup process should be safe as it's only transfering the image from the router, not updating it and may help westendboy!

This worked a while ago with two routers I was using, both with TT firmware

Exactly the same and unable to get into "emergency recovery mode" as described. Shame really as I was looking forward to some useful logging from the router. If anyone finds a way of getting into a recovery mode I would be very interested.
